This work will establish common supervisory criteria for National Competent Authorities (NCAs) to supervise fund documentation and marketing material. The publication is part of the actions to implement ESMA’s Sustainable Finance Roadmap, namely the consistent implementation of new requirements applicable to asset managers by developing new supervisory briefing(s). ESMA will work closely with NCAs to promote further supervisory convergence.

Experts said data is key to tackle greenwashing

Speaking at the Bank for International Settlements Green Swan conference on climate transition and financing, a panel of experts has said that data is the key to guard against greenwashing and enabling firms to transition smoothly to lower carbon practices, and a data driven approach is necessary to deal with global requirements from regulators and investors. Sue Lloyd, vice chair of the International Sustainability Standards Board, said it has an ESG standards consultation out for comment until July, and transition disclosures were specifically included. “We are looking for this forward-looking information about transition planning and also specifically on carbon emission targets and the plan for the business model to try to get greenhouse gas emissions down,” Lloyd said.
